Malaysia to Return to Traditional School Calendar by 2026
The COVID-19 pandemic caused significant disruptions to Malaysia’s school calendar, leading to a shift from the traditional January–December schedule. However, plans are now underway to restore the original school year structure starting in 2026.
This move aims to bring stability to the academic calendar and align it with pre-pandemic norms, benefiting students, teachers, and parents alike.
Malaysia Announces Academic Year Schedule for 2025
For 2025, the academic year will run from February to December, incorporating scheduled breaks for public and school holidays. The new term is set to begin on 16 February 2025 for Group A states and 17 February 2025 for Group B states.
The variation in start dates reflects the differences in weekend observances across states, with Group A states observing Friday and Saturday as weekends, while Group B states observe Saturday and Sunday.
This schedule ensures a smooth transition while accommodating the unique needs of each state.
